About Peter

I live on Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf 35 minutes by ferry from Auckland. I work from home and in Downtown Auckland on WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS.I can come into town other days of the week but only by appointment.

Besides English I also speak and write Dutch, while my spoken German is reasonably good and French not. The language skills are mainly due to my European upbringing (born in Holland) and came to New Zealand in early in my early 20's in 1972. I had to repeat my tertiary education as a medical technologist again in Auckland again at Auckland Hospital (as they then and even now do not recognise overseas university education) and eventually was the Gazetted Analyst for the Auckland Public Health Laboratory till 1989 as an extension of the Wellington based National health Institute .

I have been interested in the natural health field since 1985 and I am working actively as is a qualified Naturopath and Remedial Masseur and Iridologist (the last two since 1993 until I completed my Advanced Naturopath diploma and BHSc Comp Med in 2006).

I am proud of my son, Rasmus, who is almost 15 years old.

My education

I studied advanced massage and bodywork techniques at Wellpark College in Grey Lynn, Auckland between 1991 and 1993. Before that I was in charge of the Auckland Public Health Laboratory for 11 years with diplomas in microbiology, haematology and biochemistry (1969 to 1974), I have the double qualification (Holland and New Zealand) of diplomas in medical microbiology and haematology in Holland as I had to repeat most of the final years of study again in New Zealand.

Changing allegiance from conventional medicine to complimentary health was a natural event. In 2002 I decided to finally cap my study by going to South Pacific College of Natural Therapeutics in Ellerslie, Auckland and qualified at the end of 2006 with both diplomas of advanced Naturopathy and Medical Herbalist, as well as a Batchelor of Health Sciences in Complimentary Medicine from Charles Sturt University, Albury, New South Wales, Australia.

I found I was dislexic in the early 80's as I could not give any public talks as was required as a health professional. I got over that block by going to a Educational Kinesiologist in late 1984. The "fix" was so incredible that I decided to learn Edu-K myself and set a long term goal to help others. Thus my study in complimentary health started in the mid 80's with Educational Kinesiology, continued over the next ten years by studying as many courses as possible in Touch for Health, Professional Health Provider, One Brain and eventually then turned to massage followed by Pulsing, Craniosacral Therapy, Fascial Kinetics, muscle energy, Lymphatic drainage, neuromuscular therapy, and by the mid 90's I also completed Iridology with David Holden (ND) and Hemaview with Metagenics (Health World). And now with the completion of my BHSc, medical herbalism and Naturopathy I have even more skills in naturopathic fields. Even though I used cranio-sacral therapy for a while I do not practice that any longer, as I am out of touch with that skill. Shortly I hope to complete my skills in NLP as well.

I worked in the early 90's with Kay Eyers in Birkdale working exclusively in the kinesiology fields. Then branched out with my other skills and opened my own massage clinics in Auckland City, Newmarket and Northcotew. I moved with my partner to Waiheke Island in 1993 when we bought a house there and have been commuting from then on to my clinic in town and also work from home. Now in 2009 I enjoy the commuting to Auckland and have 2 or three days in Downtown Auckland where I have my own clinic space in the clinic of an Osteopath. I am there 3 days every week from Wednesday to Friday. I am renting a beautiful clinic room there with a wonderful view of the Auckland port and harbour .
