I am going through this process at the moment (Oct-Nov 09).

Even thopugh the detoxing has not started yet as I have to regulate and correct my digestion first, my body is changing. My slight muscle tremor is changed.
Do not remove your existing amalgam from your teeth at once. Remove only 3 or 4 per three month and do it with all care, ie. have the dentist use a dam and separate air intake.
I am using Hair Mineral Analysis before an after the HMD.
Naturopathic protocol: Start with rehydration and remineralisation.
Follow with colon repair and phase 1 and Phase 2 activation.
It pays to check all body systems with QRA method and repair those before doing the actual removal of the heavy metals.
A hair Mineral Analysis before and after is the only real proof of the problem and the repair.
I am using Elete and CMD for rehydration, MUltitrace for remineralisation and a number of non-synthetic supplements for digestion and stage 1 and 2 liver detoxification. When this is complete I can start on the actual heavy metal detoxification. To eliminate the heavy metals all other processes need to be corrected. I will keep you informed. More later.
